Director of Operations

Director of Operations

Location: Nottingham / London

Salary: £65k – £90k

You love working in a senior Operations role within education.  Almost everything about it.  The stability, the fact that you are helping to shape young people’s futures (directly or indirectly) and that you get to speak to and work with incredibly talented and passionate people.

However, starting work at 7 am can be a bummer if you aren’t a morning person. So, what do you do?  You apply for this job of course.  Duh!

This company is in hyper-growth mode.  They have an extensive client base of schools and education facilities around the UK, winning customer after customer off the back of their strong reputation for providing quality teaching and teaching support staff, on a temporary and permanent basis.

The Managing Director is now looking to bolster his senior leadership team by hiring their very first Director of Operations to join the team in a newly created role to help him steer the ship as they enter a new phase of their growth.

As Director of Operations, you will work closely with the HR Director to develop and implement new robust policies and procedures to get the most out of every team member and department to support the growth plans over the next two years.

They will be launching several new branches so there are big challenges and opportunities ahead!

Through effective leadership, you will lead a team of managers to drive performance, identify opportunities and increase profitability, and will report to the CEO on all aspects of customer service, internal recruitment and training, employee relations, compensation, and benefits.

All teams within the company will utilise the most effective technologies to drive performance, such as applicant tracking systems and sales management software. It is the responsibility of you, the Operations Director, to research and implement new technologies, tools, and strategies to ensure the future success and development of the company.

This opportunity is not to be missed- if you have worked within a similar role for a recruitment company (education sector preferred, though not essential)

Please call Rebel for full details or apply- Ask for Sam Morgan!

Salary: £65K – £90K depending on experience and location

Are you passionate about education and possess a proven track record as a Senior HR professional? Have you worked as an HR professional within the recruitment industry previously?

Does the thought of working for a fast-growing, entrepreneurial company as their very first HR Director make you wanna scream “hell yeah!”?

(Ok, I maybe overdid it there a tad on the enthusiasm)

This company works in partnership with schools and education facilities around the UK, providing high-quality teaching and support staff on a permanent and temporary basis, ensuring their schools can deliver the best to their students, every day.

Their achievements over the last two years have allowed the company to action their growth plans ahead of schedule and open new branches across the UK, meaning more people joining and the need for new operational roles to support this growth!

Based in London or Nottingham, this HR Director role will suit a strategic thinker with the willingness to roll their sleeves up and implement the initiatives they have developed (using your well-honed skills and knowledge of HR good practice).

Whilst the company is well established, this role will involve working closely with the Operations Director, to improve and develop the current policies and procedures, so experience of working within a recruitment company would be valuable.

Digital Trading Manager

Digital Trading Manager

Location: Nottingham – Hybrid/remote (once a week in Nottinghamshire or London office)

Salary: £60k – £72k

B2C retail-focused digital trading managers! Are you ready to head up digital trading plans for one of the best-known retail household brands in the UK? Great, then I guess I should tell you a bit more…

Reporting into: Head of Digital

Direct reports: x4 digital traders, digital planning manager and paid media manager.

As the digital trading manager/e-commerce manager, you will be heading up the day-to-day trade plans and promotions for the company and related websites. You’ll be reacting to performance signals and proposing new approaches to take the digital branch of the business to the next level. This is one of those rare roles where there is high exposure to the CEO/C-suite due to the team structure and the fact you will be presenting the monthly margin forecasts, and trade plans and leading the delivery on them.

The right candidate for this role has a number of years experience in the B2C E-commerce domain looking after digital trading. Perhaps you are currently an Ecommerce manager for a large brand? Or perhaps you are managing a team within buying at the moment? They are HEAVILY focused on commercial performance right now, so the skillset that the successful candidate can bring to the table will be crucial. If you are a “numbers person” then you are in the right place.

Although this is a fantastic opportunity, I don’t like to sugarcoat things and therefore it’s important to understand that due to the current digital transformation they are going through, you will need to be highly resilient, able to foresee future trading opportunities and able to set the pace working cross-functionally with the marketing and commercial teams. Longer term they would be looking for you to deliver the trading plans on online marketplaces like Amazon etc.

Web Developer

Web Developer (C# / JavaScript)

Location: Hybrid / Nottingham (once a week in the office)

Salary: £30k – £45k

It’s 2023, you’ve made some personal commitments to progress your technical skills and you’ve decided you need a change of environment. You’ve got an appetite to work on technically challenging projects and you’re looking for a place where you feel valued, somewhere where your opinions are appreciated.

The company I’m recruiting for have been around for over 50 years and they have exceeded their company targets even during the worst of the Covid pandemic, growing 25% year on year. Due to this growth (and various acquisitions of smaller brands within the same domain), they have embarked on growing their high-performing tech team which is the backbone of their business.

The tech team consists of around 50 (but will soon be 60) with departments including SAP, technical support, mobile development and BAU dev teams. However, the web team falls outside any of the above-mentioned departments. They are responsible for their flagship product which brings in a revenue of around £60 million a year. This team is currently made up of a technical architect, senior developer, automation tester and Scrum Master / BA.

I’m looking for someone who is passionate about development and is always keen to stay ahead of the curve. It doesn’t matter if you are stronger in JavaScript or C#, what is relevant here is that you’ll be working with both (along with RESTful web services, SQL Server and CSS). As it’s a small web team, you need to have a ‘can do attitude’ as they work in an agile environment with fortnightly sprints.

£30k to £45k basic salary, 31 days holiday, competitive pension scheme, healthcare cashback plan + discounted gym membership.

At Rebel Recruiters, we work closely with our clients meaning we have a deeper understanding of every role and company we recruit for. This vacancy is exclusive to us so if it piques your interest please apply or call for a guaranteed, personal reply from one of our Rebel Recruiters!

DevOps Engineer

DevOps Engineer
Salary: £55k-£65k, £1000 yearly well-being allowance, private medical insurance and much more
Location: Nottingham, hybrid remote with 1-2 monthly visits to the office

Yes, it’s finance and trade and market analytics. Yet, in the current climate, there is much that a company can do to commit to positive change and this company you’d consider joining is doing just that.

Not only are they carbon neutral certified, but they have also implemented a transparent pledge, in accordance with the UN Climate Change “Race to Zero” guidelines, to halve their carbon emissions by 2030 and work towards net zero by 2040.

This has transformed them into the first global exchange group to ever do such a thing!

Not only that – they are a big team and are committed to diversity and inclusion. The importance placed on each individual’s well-being permeates throughout the organisation. They are one of The Valuable 500, after all.

Now that I’ve got your attention, let’s look at what you’ll need to be considered for the job.

Some experience working with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines is required, as part of the role will enlist your help to configure DevOps infrastructure, using things like Jenkins or GitLab.

Experience with cloud infrastructure is a must, so if you come from a GCP or Azure background and are happy to also learn AWS services, that’s great. You will get the opportunity to use those skills as the team work on multi-cloud platforms.

You’ll also need a fair amount of automation know-how that will serve you well when planning and executing performance and operational testing, as well as looking at fault tolerance.

Python is something that will get you far in the land of the Linux-operated environments that you will be trekking day to day, while some basic knowledge of at least one programming language, such as Java, will be a trusted companion along that journey.

On occasion, your reliable communication skills will be called upon to deliver presentations or reports to various audiences, so your initiative and enthusiasm for your work, as well as attention to detail and resilient spirit, will help you prevail.

All the above and much, much more is at your fingertips, so why linger?

ClimateTech Commercial Operations Manager – Maritime Sector

ClimateTech Commercial Operations Manager (Maritime Sector)
Location: UK, remote – some travel required.
Salary: Up to £80K + equity & benefits & bonuses (will consider contractor without equity/benefits and longer-term view to go perm)
Role: Build brand & commercial strategy ready to deliver products & services in 2024

Some industries are easily adaptable to reducing emissions, driven by consumer behaviours. Others need dragging into the 21st century which requires a different approach. More patience, resilience and tenacity.

Shipping is notoriously tied to the fossil fuels sector, around 50% of everything transported by boat is oil, coal or gas. At first, they were slow adopters but now the penny has dropped and there is a somewhat hidden gold rush.

The company are developing wind-assisted solutions that aren’t available anywhere else. They’re seeing incredible demand from companies large and small. However, technology and hardware are still 18 months from delivery – in part because demand for these systems was small 5 years ago, 10 years ago it was non-existent.

They’ve raised several £million already – a mix of private equity and grants, with further multi-million-£ grants pending, some tied to outcomes and deadlines, others to drive R&D further – and will use that to deliver two test and validation projects, as well as further case studies to advance the case for adoption and improve credibility.

This person will network and present this company, its products and services to the world, creating a sales strategy so that when the hardware is ready for delivery in 2024 there’s a pipeline of customers. You’ll map the industry and potential clients engaging them to improve their understanding of how products can meet customer needs.

Department for Transport studies and data show there are more than 40,000 vessels worldwide that are eligible for using these wind technologies to cut fuel use and emissions by ~20-30%, delivering savings that can more than cover costs throughout the asset lifetime. Experts say 40K is a huge underestimate, so the opportunity is incredible.

The company are looking to the aviation sector for inspiration on its business model. Looking to lease equipment so that when vessels reach their end of life, assets aren’t stranded and don’t fall into disrepair, but instead are re-applied across businesses and their fleets.

There’s potential for maintenance contracts and weather insurance opportunities, too, so exp. With 3rd parties and building partnerships or exploring new ideas is beneficial. Not to mention their plans to offer logistics and route optimisation services through weather modelling software.

As part of all that, you’ll ensure profit margins and service costs are appropriate to generate revenue and maximise competition in a market that is currently in its infancy, with frankly quite wild room for growth and expansion.

Experience taking new products and ideas to market will stand out, particularly in heavy industry or start-ups.

ClimateTech Project Director – Maritime Sector

ClimateTech Project Director – Maritime sector

Location: UK, with travel to Scotland required, ad-hoc.

Salary: Up to £80K + equity & benefits (will consider contractor without equity/benefits)

Role: Take ownership of large-scale test & validation project, and other projects coming online.

When it comes to climate solutions some sectors are highly adaptable and driven by consumer behaviours towards change.

For others, the situation is more complex, with assets tied into operations for 30-year life spans and difficult trade-offs for retro-fits or bit-part actions. The maritime sector falls into that category.

Around 50% of everything transported by boat is fuel. Oil, coal or gas.

It’s easy to see a problem there regarding decarbonisation. But it must happen and finally ” thanks to the tireless work of a small, resilient and determined group ” it is. Appetite is growing faster than solutions providers can keep up with.

That appetite isn’t all for hydrogen, methane or ammonia engines and EV boats ” which are decades away *hint, 30-year assets* ” but for hybrid solutions, taking existing ships and retrofitting them with wind solutions that can cut fuel use and emissions by ~20-30% now. Why wait? Huge savings in fuels costs and emissions.

*Cue the Project Director, come on down!

We need someone with a varied skillset centred around project management. With experience working on multi-million £/$ projects, coordinating with the CFO keeping an eye on budgets, ensuring all key stakeholders are updated ” including C-suite folks, business and R&D partners, government and policy people, potential customers and more.

You don’t need to be from the maritime sector ” though shipping, heavy industry or engineering experience may be beneficial if you’ve works on R&D intensive projects before ” but you’ll need strong initiative, to be adaptable and pick up complex technical language, also being comfy working in a start-up where tasks not aligned with your responsibilities inevitably fall at your feet.

You’ll work with highly skilled industry experts such as navel architects and ship designers, data scientists etc. ” hence maritime exp. not being essential ” who can confirm or guide on whether materials or methodology fits, explain the ins-and-outs of risks or break down scientific reports, but you will become an expert in this field over time.

This is a Systems Design company, covering hardware to get ships from A to B using less fuel, and the software to optimise it all. They’ve have secured ~£5million in funding to prove the value in the products they will eventually take to market.

They have a business model that looks to lease the wind-propulsion hardware, offering software and logistics services to optimise the fuel savings made when retrofitting or building new ships with integrated wind technologies.

This is an incredibly interesting role at a time when the industry is clamouring for decarbonisation solutions. With few competitors ” none as far along the process ” and more than 40,000 vessels capable of utilising these technologies (Dept. for Transport research) there’s never been a better time to jump aboard”

GreenTech Data Scientist – Conservation

Conservation Data Scientist

Location: Fully remote within Europe, +/- 2 hours of CET.

Salary: €70K – €80K + 13% vacation supplement + equity & benefits.

Forest management can be challenging. Cut too much and you’re causing unnecessary damage, too little and the risk of wildfire or damage to infrastructure can be devastating and costly.

Vegetation management may not sound all that exciting but building earth observation software to integrate satellite imagery and Machine Learning with data coming in from teams, remote sensors and other hardware on the ground presents interesting challenges!

These systems are used to efficiently manage resources and team activities, saving time and money.

Most importantly though, this saves homes, businesses and services from blackouts caused by seasonal and extreme weather events. It’s a game changer in energy and climate resilience.

The company have grown rapidly since the end of 2021. There are ~50 people now, with around 20 of those in development and data science.

The data science team are growing to increase the capacity of their systems for their existing clients, and to meet demand as new clients with ever-more-interesting requirements come online. They need someone to support their efforts to utilise satellite imagery and other geographical datasets and analyse those using machine learning, delivering the end results to customers.

You’ll work with the software engineering teams to improve and create products and tools, refine and build data models and look at optimising data pipelines, nudging their systems onto the next stage of evolution.

Predominantly they use Python, but they also work quite heavily with GIS technologies and tools. They also use PyTorch and Tensorflow, so experience with similar frameworks or libraries will be transferrable, especially if you’ve worked with geospatial and satellite data. They’re not too picky about whether you’ve worked with R, MATLAB or others, so long as are familiar with Python and can complete a 4-hour take-home task using it.

There will be some projects you manage independently, and others where you collaborate with the broader team, including customer success.

If alongside being a data scientist you’re deeply curious about climate change, nature and biodiversity, this is a great opportunity to explore those passions and contribute to interesting products with tangible impacts, please do apply.

The team are friendly and passionate, and the company are supportive with good benefits including equity, so you’ve bought into any future success.

What are you waiting for? ?
