GreenTech Senior React Native Engineer

GreenTech Senior React Native Engineer
Location: Remote, UK based
Salary: £75,000 – £85,000 + Benefits & Equity

How would you like to be part of the team that leads in cutting 8% of global emissions, while also tackling food poverty?

Leading more sustainable lives isn’t hard but changing behaviours can be.

We’re working with a company enabling the redistribution of food that would otherwise go to waste and they’re already a global success with a web and mobile app live in ~150 countries.

They’ve always been remote and do a lot to ensure their teams are not just succeeding but are genuinely happy, avoiding burnout and creating a super friendly and collaborative culture. Everyone is passionate about addressing social and environmental issues, compassionate and bought into taking action.

You’ll be working with a technical team of around 30, where every person on the team contributes their own ideas. Pair programming and knowledge sharing are common and shared goals for the platform centre around impact.

The business has been defining its progress frameworks, so you’ll know how to advance your career and grow.

Their mobile app is built with React Native and that’s where they need some specialist skills. They want someone who’s worked in a company where multiple teams have contributed to a single product or service. Someone who’s seen the evolution of a product from MVP to a scalable app with, ideally, millions of users or growing complexity.

It’d also be ideal if you’ve worked with Swift or Kotlin and understand the Android and iOS ecosystems, but a good React Native experience is the golden chalice here.

In a senior capacity, you’ll also help others to grow through code reviews and coaching where you can, catching mistakes and helping people avoid them in future.

They have high standards when it comes to testing and have QA Engineers embedded into their teams, coaching and supporting devs to improve their capabilities and testing knowledge.

Critically though, you need to have a passion for tackling the climate crisis. They want people who have a good awareness of the scale of the problem and the urgency with which we must act to overcome the challenges ahead.

What’s in it for you? Well, the list is too long to fit in here. Alongside a great salary, true flexibility to work how you like, abroad for 6 months, timings that fit around your life, no clock-watching and real progression, you’ll be joining a company that is already changing the world and has its eyes set firmly on scaling its impact.

If this sounds appealing to you and you have some commercial experience with React, please hit apply and let’s have a chat.

Senior Full Stack Developer

Role:  Mid-Senior C# Developer (Angular front-end focus)

Location:  Leicester/ flexible, fully remote working

Salary:  £55k plus benefits including 28 days holiday + bank holidays.

“When I grow up, I want to be a Software Engineer”.

If you said this as a child and want to find a way to help more young people know what they want to do when they grow up, and hopefully get more people into the tech industry, then this role is perfect for you; this is what this company does.

You can genuinely make a difference in people’s lives, and have fun doing it, too!

I am after a Mid-Senior full stack, Angular front-end-focussed C# Developer for a wonderful company in Leicester. If you’d prefer to work fully remotely, or in a hybrid fashion, not a problem- just let me know!

Their core tech stack is:

✊  JavaScript with Angular

✊  C#

✊  .Net 6

✊  SQL Server

✊  WebAPI

They are big fans of software engineering best practices and put a lot of importance on using concepts such as SOLID principles, design patterns, Test-Driven Development (TDD), dependency injection, etc. so you’ll need to be happy and able to work to these standards!

The front-end focus of the role has come about because the main workload is centred around a web application that needs improving considerably on the front end. There will be some back-end work for a different system, but that’s pretty much in maintenance mode now.

Personal development and continuous learning is something they are very big on; they invest heavily in learning and development for their teams, so this is a big plus for anyone wanting to upskill.

There are around 40 people in the UK arm of the company, split into 6 Product teams of 5-7 Engineers each. They have a fabulous culture of supporting each other, which is something they want to continue with every new person they bring in.

A particular quirk of this role is that the majority of your development team, excluding the Dev Manager, is based in the US. So you will need to be happy working solo/ with just the Dev Manager each morning until the team comes online! If you are a night owl and would prefer to start work a bit later than 9, and work later into the evening, that would work well but isn’t necessary for you to be successful in this role.

C# Developer

Role: C# .Net Core Developer with Angular and AWS

Location: Office is based in Sandiacre, Nottinghamshire, hybrid working with 2-3 days per week in the office.

Salary: Up to £60k

C# and ASP.Net (Core) are where you live.

You’re comfortable there; you got your foundations right at the start with good development practices, and have since built a strong and secure career by learning about handy tools such as dependency injection, microservices, containerisation, etc.

You use cloud hosting like AWS to reduce your overheads and improve efficiencies.

For those mundane, repeatable tasks, you use design patterns, to make sure you do the same thing in the same way, every time, so your house doesn’t fall down due to shoddy, unpredictable work.

Whilst you use modern tech, practices, and techniques, you have been in the development game for long enough to be able to read, understand, and convert an older codebase (.Net 4, MVC, etc) to a new, shiny version (.Net Core, CosmosDB, AWS etc) seamlessly. You know what the newer stuff does best, and ways to incorporate that in the rewrite.

Finally, you’re great at understanding what your users want out of your solution because you’ve got great communication skills and ask the RIGHT questions! Doesn’t matter if they’re internal or external- you are good with people.

Now, you need a new role to put all this knowledge and experience to great use, which – if you hadn’t guessed already – is where this role comes in.

If the above describes you, this is the role for you.

The company is small and nimble; they can make development choices quickly and efficiently, everyone knows each other well, and are intelligent people that like to have a laugh along the way!

They are quite a young company, so even its legacy code isn’t very old. They make a point of leveraging the best tech out there to make sure their products are the best they can be well-written, functional, and reliable.

They have a flagship product and an additional one; this role will initially be seeing your work on the additional one; liaising with internal stakeholders (the product’s current users) to do a revamp of the codebase to bring it up to the latest iteration of .Net Core 6, improve its functionality, and to use a more appropriate database. You will then most likely work on the flagship product, which uses .Net Core 4/5, AWS, Microservices, Docker, etc.

If this sounds right up your street, apply now or drop me a line to find out more about your new role!

Mid to Senior C# Developer

Role: Mid – Senior C# Developer

Salary: Up to £65k

Location: Birmingham office, with anything from fully office-based through to 1/ quarter office visits being offered as working arrangements, whatever suits you best!

The saying goes that nobody leaves a bad job, they leave a bad manager.

This could account for why the dev attrition rate at this company is so low; the Development Manager is awesome!

Caring, understanding, and technically astute, the Development Manager is a really lovely chap who has hired, and is continuing to hire, fabulous people for his teams. They have a professional, inclusive, and laid-back attitude in their ranks.

The company I’m recruiting for is a medium-sized business with a well-established tech team, who are great at what they do. They have been around for almost 20 years, have a very strong base of customers and have offices around the world.

They have a number of products on offer here and split their teams up accordingly. Most of the developers are full stack, using C#, .Net 6, JavaScript/ TypeScript, Angular and Azure.

One of their flagship products is slightly older than the rest and uses C# .Net Framework, Knockout.js, JavaScript, etc.

Finally, one of their teams focuses on backend development and integration, using minimal front-end skills.

There is something for everyone!

They are big believers in training and upskilling here, so you’ll get time and space to make sure your skills are at their best!

They have embraced remote working, so whatever arrangement you need to work at your best is good for them, too!

If you want to use our skills in a supportive environment, using great tech, with excellent colleagues and interesting work, then this is the place for you.

Apply now or drop me a line to find out more! ✊

This company is one of Nottingham’s success stories. They have grown and developed into a bonafide disruptive national Fintech brand, taking their own brand of ‘doing things differently’ to a traditionally slow-moving and cumbersome industry.

You will be joining a team which has a great culture and atmosphere. They are a collaborative bunch who are keen and are looking forward to moving the data function forward and embracing new technologies.

GreenTech Ruby on Rails Developer

GreenTech Ruby on Rails Developer – Remote, UK

Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 + equity and benefits.
Location: Remote (UK based)

Isn’t food awesome? Chicken teriyaki, jacket potato and beans ” with or without cheese? East or South Asian curry ” vegan, veggie or meaty? Fish and chips.

It’s all good stuff. But did you know – 40% of all food grown, never gets eaten by a human? Mental.

We could feed a few folks with that, I reckon. The more you look into it, the more you realise that food waste is a massive problem. It emits methane too! Bugger.

Thankfully, it’s not all doom and gloom.

Over 81% of us would be happy to accept food from a neighbour or someone in their community. There’s a company getting more people ” and businesses too! to do exactly that.

They’re working with businesses and suppliers across the food and beverage supply chain, around the world, to operate more sustainably and divert unsold or unwanted food into the bellies of the folks that need and want it.

They’ve grown organically over the last 8 years, and have over 6 million users with 65,000 volunteers. That’s 6 million people doing their bit to remove food waste from the equation, and they can do it all with a few clicks, taps and snaps!

They’ve got big plans, new features and integrations in the works that’ll make it easier for users to share and collect, right now the tech team sits around 25 people, across dev and test.

In 6 months or so that’ll grow to about 32. That’s where you come in!

They’re a friendly bunch and as you can imagine everyone in the team is passionate about sustainability. If you’re someone that really cares about this stuff, you’ll be right at home, literally ” they’re a remote-first company.

If you’ve been a dev for ~4 years and maybe one or two of that have been with Ruby on Rails, boom! If you enjoy peer programming and are comfortable with testing using tools like Rspec or Capybara and want to solve tricky problems, sweet!

They use things like AWS with S3, ECR, ELB, and Cloudwatch and also use Docker, Travis CI for their CICD, lots of google maps integration and Redis, among other things. Any experience with those or similar tools will help. Most importantly, they’ll want to hear where you see yourself in the bigger picture of climate action.

If you fancy building something that could change behaviours around food waste for good, helping millions of people along the way, well. You know what to do.

[It’s hit APPLY, you should really, really think about hitting APPLY].

Full Stack Developer

Role: Full Stack TypeScript & Python Software Engineer

Salary: up to £70k

Location: Fully remote/ remote first. They have no office!

Would you like to use your tech skills to help reduce the damaging impact of transportation on the climate crisis?

Then this role and company might just well be what you’ve been looking for!

I am looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer, with a specialism in Python and TypeScript (Node) and web development.

You will be going into a small, but growing, company and team; there are 2 developers there currently and around 10-15 people in the company as a whole. They are a talented and caring bunch of people from diverse backgrounds, who love what they do and believe strongly in the company’s mission.

Data IS the company’s product. They use it to augment behaviours within the transportation sector to reduce fuel costs and usage; helping the companies they work with to save money and, most importantly, to have a significant, positive impact on the environment.

Due to the nature of the business, having a strong passion for data would be a major advantage! SQL skills around data modelling, CRUD ops, etc would be beneficial.

As they are a start-up, they have virtually no tech debt, all their projects are greenfield; making this a veritable utopia for developers! They always endeavour to improve a system before building new features on it; something that I’ve not seen many other companies do.  And that speaks volumes about their general approach to their tech – sustainability, efficiency, and scalability are paramount.

To give you an idea of what you can expect to be doing in this role; you will, amongst other things, be tasked with the Design, build, and maintenance of multiple parts of the product, including; their customer-facing web app, backend systems, databases, microservices, third-party APIs, and servers in the cloud.

It would be really useful if you’ve worked in a cloud environment previously, with DevOps processes in place; taking part in interacting with the cloud, using CI/ CD pipelines for deployment through to production. It doesn’t matter which cloud you’ve used before- GCP/ Azure or AWS, but they use AWS, so this would be the most pertinent for this role.

They like to have good debates and technical conversations around best practices and how they can continuously improve how they do things, so if you’re the type of person to have strong views on these kinds of things- with enough humility to have your mind changed, and accept where other peoples’ ideas might be a better solution for the problem at hand- then you’ll fit right in!

They all work entirely remotely and don’t have an office, so you’ll need to be happy and able to comfortably work from home. They do like to socialise though! So in-person meetup suggestions- perhaps in a hot desk environment or a meeting for a coffee, would be welcomed.

If this sounds right up your street, then please get in touch to find out more, or apply today!

GreenTech Electrical Engineer

GreenTech Electrical Engineers, design and build – Renewables, Data Centres & Substations
Location: Norway – Oslo, Portugal – Lisbon, Scandinavia
Salary: €45K – €100K permanent OR; up to €500 per day contract.
Role: Designing and building electrical infrastructure for data centres and renewable power stations on the European mainland.

Electrify everything. With renewables…

That’s the name of the game when it comes to tackling the climate crisis. We’ve passed the point of making renewable energy cheaper than fossil fuels and there are £/$/€ billions being spent on improving capabilities for all types of renewables from wave energy to more efficient photovoltaics.

The EU has recently made initial commitments of € 250 billion to fund green initiatives and enable net-zero progress to counter the Inflation Reduction Act in the US.

This will incentivise the building of building efficient data centres, low-carbon transport, sustainable homes and heating system, substations to connect renewable energy to the grid and international super connectors to share energy across borders.

This transition requires electrical engineers to design, build and maintain the necessary infrastructure. That’s where you come in!

If you’ve worked on complex energy control systems or renewables projects before, or have dabbled in R&D and innovative sectors such as Hydrogen or alternative fuels, grid connections for wave, geothermal or hydropower, you’ll immediately stand out.

A currently small but quickly growing team of ~25 engineers, designers, and project and product managers are working on varied projects currently focused on data centres and designing substations and power stations to take the energy generated by renewables and get it into people’s homes and businesses.

With data centres, they also look to harness excess heat generated by the servers for heating greenhouses, community centres and swimming pools, businesses or homes where possible. They need people with familiarity working on highly innovative projects.

As you’ll no doubt know, substations, solar farms, power stations and data centres aren’t always built in town or city centres, so for hands-on engineering roles, you’ll need to be willing to travel to sites across the Scandinavian region – with appropriate rights to work. This may also apply to design positions where terrain or existing infrastructure complicate things.

The company are charging ahead into a bold new world that’s only accelerating further towards net zero. Decarbonising our daily lives. In 2017 data passed oil as the most valuable commodity on the planet, and renewables projects are increasing rapidly year-on-year so I’m sure you can see the scale of opportunity on offer here.

If this all sounds quite exciting and you meet the requirements mentioned above, please do reach out or apply.

Lead Developer

Role:  Senior & Lead Developer (C# .Net Core)

Location:  Fully remote (1/ fortnight in the office for team meetings)

Salary:  Up to £65k depending on the level of experience

If you’re fed up with getting passed rubbish projects, not having the support you need to do your job to the best of your ability, and having no real career progression or training, then you should apply for this role.

I know it’s a blunt opener, but I can’t think of a witty way to say; ‘you’re being underappreciated and that should stop because you’re great. Here’s how.’

I’m recruiting for a company in Leicester, and they need a Developer.

They’ll be good to you.

They have some great projects to get stuck into- both internal and external- because a few years ago some really great, forward-thinking people in their tiny ‘IT dept’ decided to champion tech to the board of Directors, and they got the go-ahead to put tech at the heart of the company, and it’s working; they are doing better than ever before.

They have done -and are continuing to make the lives of their non-IT colleagues better by improving the systems/ apps they use better. They are delivering new external applications to ameliorate the experience of their users.

They use the latest iterations of the tech they use- C#, .Net Core, Azure, Azure DevOps, CosmosDB, Azure AD, Docker, Kubernetes, Entity Framework, microservices, etc. and believe in doing things the *right* way, both in terms of technical best practice and methodologically, with things like Agile and DevOps processes.

They have implemented an Agile methodology and team structure; so whilst the team structure is quite flat because of that- lots of cross-collaboration between PMs, BAs, Devs, Test, etc. they are a relatively large company, and there are progression routes a-plenty, with training offered, too.

They have several technical teams, filled with people that love what they do, and are blinking great at it.

They are genuinely committed to being one of the best companies to work for in terms of their people, tech, projects, and beautiful office (with free parking and lots of treats in the kitchen).

If you would like to learn more about this role, give me a shout at the contact details provided, or if you’re fully bought in, apply now!

Welcome to the next step in your career.

GreenTech Principal Geospatial Data Scientist

Principal Geospatial Data Scientist – Conservation
Location: Fully remote within Europe, +/- 2 hours of CET.
Salary: £70K – £100K + 13% vacation supplement + equity & benefits.

Forest management can be challenging. Cut too much and you’re causing unnecessary damage, too little and the risk of wildfire or damage to infrastructure can be devastating and costly.

Vegetation management may not sound all that exciting but building earth observation software to integrate satellite imagery with geospatial analysis and Machine Learning with data coming in from teams, remote sensors and other hardware on the ground presents interesting challenges!

These systems are used to efficiently manage resources and team activities, saving time and money.

Most importantly though, this saves homes, businesses and services from blackouts caused by seasonal and extreme weather events. It’s a game changer improving energy and climate resilience.

The company have grown rapidly since the end of 2021. There are 60 people now, with around 25 of those in development and data science.

The data science team are growing to increase the capacity of their systems for their existing clients, and to meet demand as new clients with ever-more-interesting requirements come online. They need someone to support their efforts to utilise satellite imagery and other geospatial datasets and analyse those using machine learning, delivering the end results to customers.

You’ll work with the software engineering teams to improve and create products and tools, support customers, refine and build data models and look at optimising data pipelines, nudging their systems onto the next stage of evolution.

Commercial remote sensing experience and having worked on projects with Python or C++ are a must, and they’re keen to speak with people who’ve worked at start-ups or small companies where close customer relationships and interaction are/were the norm.

Predominantly they use Python, but they also work quite heavily with GIS technologies and tools. They also use PyTorth and Tensorflow, so experience with similar frameworks or libraries will be transferrable, especially if you’ve worked with geospatial and satellite data. They’re not too picky about whether you’ve worked with R, MATLAB or others, so long as are familiar with Python and can complete a ~4-hour take-home task using it.

There will be some projects you manage independently, and others where you collaborate with the broader team, including customer success.

If alongside being a data scientist you’re deeply curious about climate change, nature and biodiversity, this is a great opportunity to explore those passions and contribute to interesting products with tangible impacts, please do apply.

The team are friendly and passionate, and the company are supportive with good benefits including equity, so you’re bought into any future success.

What are you waiting for? :D
