Graduate Software Engineer

full time

Salary: £25,000 - 30,000

Location: Nottinghamshire

Not every graduate wants to work in a city...

In fact, for a lot of devs, it’s nice to work in an environment where you get a bit of peace and quiet. A place where you can sit back, think about a problem, and learn.

If you’re that way inclined, then this role is probably just what you need...

Founded a little bit under 10 years ago, this small team of three created something as a side-hustle that’s quickly turned them in to a household name. The funny thing is, you’ve probably never even heard of them - even if you’ve used their software!

It’s safe to say they’ve found a great little niche and they’ve got a product that’s used all over the world by the likes of Mercedes, Audi, Pixar, and even your everyday freelance photographer.

But what does that mean to you? A company’s a company, and a job’s a job, right?

Well, for starters, they’re not some crazy target-driven team of 50 working in a huge office building in Notts City Centre. Far from it. The two founders made the decision a long time ago that, no matter how much they grew, their people would have a great work/life balance, and they’d offer great developers an escape from the rat race that is corporate life.

You’ll have real input on the direction of the product, as well as a decent amount of pull when it comes to adding new features and doing what a software developer does best - be creative and create something magical.

The team is small - 3 now, but they want to grow it to 6 this year - so for those who want to come into a leadership position with lots of people management, it’s probably not the right place. But, if you were looking for a role where you get to sit next to your CTO and just have a chat about what’s on the agenda today, then this is where you want to be.

On a day to day basis, you’ll be a crucial part of developing new features for their 'best in breed’ 3D mapping and HDR software.

If you’ve ever had an interest in 3d visual imaging, or you’ve tinkered with lighting and mapping software before and thought it was fun, this is your chance to get involved and learn even more about it - trust me, it’s a fascinating bit of kit!

They’re based in Newark, in a beautiful stately manor that has acres of maintained grounds, a coffee shop/cafeteria, and plenty of office space to move around. You can even stretch your legs in the countryside at lunch if you fancy it.

This is a graduate role, so they don't need you to come on board with all the knowledge in the world, Besides, you'll be working directly with the CTO anyway - plenty for you to learn! What's important is that you really care about good quality software. If you're someone who tinkers, and you've got some solid personal projects (github/good portfolio/hackathons) to back up your (not yet perfect) skills, then you'll do just fine here.

In a perfect world, you'll probably look a bit like this...

  • You'll know your way around C/C++ to a reasonable degree
  • Software is just "what you do" - we're looking for a few personal projects to complement your application
  • Good software quality is important to you. That means no slapdash solutions, and you'll love tackling a tricky problem

So, what are you waiting for? I’ve talked enough about the basics, why not give me a call and we can talk about what they can do for you?

Don’t worry if you haven’t got an up to date CV - we can sort that out later!
