Senior Software Engineer (C++)

Headline: Not everyone wants to work in a city...in fact, for a lot of devs, particularly as they approach a more senior point in their careers, it’s nice to work in an environment where you get a bit of peace and quiet.
Salary: £40,000 – 50,000
Location: Newark, Nottinghamshire

Founded a little bit under 10 years ago, this small team of three created something as a side-hustle that’s quickly turned them in to a household name. The funny thing is, you’ve probably never even heard of them – even if you’ve used their software!

It’s safe to say they’ve found a great little niche and they’ve got a product that’s used all over the world by the likes of Mercedes, Audi, Pixar, and even your everyday freelance photographer.

But what does that mean to you? A company’s a company, and a job’s a job, right?

Well, for starters, they’re not some crazy target-driven team of 50 working in a huge office building in Notts City Centre. Far from it. The two founders made the decision a long time ago that, no matter how much they grew, their people would have a great work/life balance, and they’d offer great developers an escape from the rat race that is corporate life.

You’ll have real input on the direction of the product, as well as a decent amount of pull when it comes to adding new features and doing what a software developer does best – be creative and create something magical.

The team is small – 3 now, but they want to grow it to 6 this year – so for those who want to come into a leadership position with lots of people management, it’s probably not the right place. But, if you were looking for a role where you get to sit next to your CTO and just have a chat about what’s on the agenda today, then this is where you want to be.

On a day to day basis, you’ll be a crucial part of developing new features for their ‘best in breed’ 3D mapping and HDR software.

If you’ve ever had an interest in 3D visual imaging, or you’ve tinkered with lighting and mapping software before and thought it was fun, this is your chance to get involved and learn even more about it – trust me, it’s a fascinating bit of kit!

They’re based in Newark, in a beautiful stately manor that has acres of maintained grounds, a coffee shop/cafeteria, and plenty of office space to move around. You can even stretch your legs in the countryside at lunch if you fancy it.

Instead of a long list of requirements and key competencies, this job is going to be all about you and your ideas. What are they not doing now? What could they do better? How do we approach this new addition to the software? Your input will have real value.

In a nutshell, they’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a strong background in C/C++ and is interested in developing software based around 3D imaging, algorithms, etc.
  • Full of ideas! They want to make sure you feel valued here, and for that to happen they you to be willing to chuck in the odd idea every now and then when they’re deciding on next steps
  • Knows their way around cross-platform development (OSX, Windows, Linux)
  • Either experience or an interest in Qt or STL

So, what are you waiting for? I’ve talked enough about the basics, why not give me a call and we can talk about what they can do for you?

Don’t worry if you haven’t got an up to date CV – we can sort that out later!
