Embedded Systems Developer

full time

Headline: Initially starting out as innovators in Wearable Tech, these tech startup wunderkinds are now branching out into bigger and better things. With their eye set firmly on a 2019 release, they're now looking for a passionate and creative Embedded Developer who can see the true potential of AI and Machine Learning.
Location: Loughborough, Leicestershire
Salary: £26,000 - £40,000 + benefits + flexible working
Ideal Candidate: You'll be someone who believes in the power of collaborative learning, and has a passion for all things AI & Machine Learning. Not content with "following the norm", you'll have the ideas and the creativity to really challenge conventional mindsets and make your mark on a fantastic product!

You'll be joining a small team of 10 on their journey to change the way world-class athletes see their training and performance. The best ideas always seem to come from very humble beginnings, and this innovative group of developers and techies have created a product that not only changes the way AI and Machine Learning is used in performance analytics, but they've also received countless awards for research and innovation in the last 2 years.

2018 was a fantastic year for them, and thanks to their belief in collaborative working, they've been successful in building a team of incredibly intelligent developers and engineers who aren't afraid to challenge convention and make their own ideas heard.

This role is for the thinkers, the creatives, and most importantly, the developers who are passionate about creating a platform that allows top-tier athletes to make themselves better, faster, and stronger (pardon the cliché)! This is a working environment where you'll be encouraged to break boundaries, develop (and sometimes defend) your own ideas, and then use your intellect to make those ideas come to life.

  • You'll work in a varied and fast-paced environment, improving the performance of proprietary machine algorithms
  • Working with athletes, coaches, and data scientists will be a key part of your role
  • As part of the team, you'll develop and optimise system firmware to collect, analyse, and transmit high-quality sensor data and insights
  • You'll have the opportunity to govern your own working day, and will be encouraged to collaborate with athletes and create new concepts and algorithms

Essential Skills:

  • You'll be a whizz with C, embedded systems, and communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, I2S
  • A strong knowledge of a scripting language (ideally Python) is important
  • Demonstrable understanding of computer algorithms and data structures
  • Their technologies use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), so you'll need to have a good grasp of the technology, and be up to date with the latest practices
  • Excellent communication skills are a must
  • You should be comfortable working with non-technical audiences (athletes, coaches, stakeholders)

You'll really stand out if you have:

  • Experience with Nordic's nRF52832 SoC or similar ARM Cortex - M4F CPU with BLE capabilities
  • You have worked with Keil MDK or similar IDEs
  • You can demonstrate previous hands-on experience with IMU data collection, analysis, calibration, and processing
  • You know your way around EDA applications like Eagle or perhaps Altium
  • Any experience with ANT+ is a huge bonus

The sky really is the limit with this team. For the right developer, there are opportunities to progress very quickly within the business, and they'll provide you with an environment that nurtures even your craziest ideas. If you're someone who defies convention, and you've got the right skills, please feel free to contact me directly for further information.
