You will take full responsibility for managing the budget for the project. You will be able to manage multiple clients at once and ensure their needs are met.

As I mentioned, experience with data is key for this project, you will have had experience with data integration projects. Any experience with data integration platforms is a bonus, as well as working with data BI projects. An understanding of implementing projects in line with the Data Protection Act is an even bigger bonus!!

Whilst you will be primarily working remotely, there is an expectation that you will travel to clients’ sites, in order to build and develop the relationship. The CIO here has real ambitions to see the tech evolve across this 2,000+ people org with ~10 regional offices and teams spread more broadly than that across biodiversity hotspots (physical & political). That includes hardware, software, data science, and the whole shebang.

So, what will you be doing specifically?

Designing, building and maintaining the tech foundation that underpins a key database and platform. This will include investigating issues and implementing fixes to build in resilience and remove points of failure. You’ll also bring documentation up to standard; much was completed by consultants and wasn’t always updated by internal members of the team so there is some work to do in enabling the evolution of this platform and this may include switching to Python and Django or other technologies in the longer-term – 2+ years.

The skills priorities are Ruby on Rails and exp building APIs, exp with geospatial data and GIS tools is highly desirable. The role will be 70:30 Backend : Leadership, with some infrastructure and security tasks in there.

There are a number of partners who collaborate on various other interlinked tools, so cross-team collaboration experience will be beneficial. If you’ve touched on security or some DevOps tools and cloud technologies, but not extensively, there is support to grow your knowledge in the form of partners/teammates and funding for courses, textbooks or other materials if needed.

It’s a small team of 5, including the systems manager, that is part of a broader conservation tech ecosystem of 5 to 6 other teams and systems that occasionally collaborate or share resources, including with some of those partner orgs.

Like so many things, there are obvious solutions staring us in the face, but it takes a brave and bold few to embrace the challenge and attempt to turn the tide.

This company is a purpose-driven endeavour. Honestly they’re looking to change the world. For the past 10 years they’ve been working day and night to develop their (quite frankly astonishing) products and services, and they’re on the cusp of something special.

However, to take that next jump, they need an accomplished software delivery professional to join them and help drive their suite of digital products and services, to complement their engineering-based solutions.

Your projects will vary, from IoT/hardware control systems through to data-science and SaaS platforms.

You won’t be doing any programming or directly managing engineers (at least for the medium term) but you will have worked in heavily technical environments where you have been responsible for making sure key software projects are specced, resourced and delivered effectively (and to budget).

It’s going to be a multi-faceted role drawing on your technical, project delivery, stakeholder management, commercial and strategic skills, and given the company is still relatively small you will need to love being in the thick of the action and rolling your sleeves up to support the company mission as is required.

You’ll have worked previously a Software Engineering Manager, Delivery Manager or Specialist Software Project Manager, ideally with a technical background that includes some SaaS and/or Data Science experience.

Any previous experience within the shipping industry would be great, along with some previous start-up/scale-up exposure.

You will likely be a passionate supporter of the sustainability movement or at least have a genuine interest in working for a purpose-driven company.

You’re someone who has forged their career so far in the field of assessment, recruitment and retention.

You’re in your element speaking to customers about how to create compelling, effective and highly efficient assessment campaigns that achieve the hiring numbers and quality their business needs.

You may have trained as a psychologist, an HR practitioner or a senior recruitment professional, before specialising in assessment and consultancy.

In this position, you’ll be leading the delivery of complex assessment solutions for a range of businesses.

It’s a heavily client-focused role – you will be the expert asking the questions to understand exactly what they need before designing solutions and working with internal product teams to ensure every customer receives the best bespoke solution to suit their needs.

Confident communication ability is key because you’ll be working with a highly varied bunch of people from client HR/management teams through to internal product development, account management, engineering and design teams.

At any one time, you’ll be juggling 3-4 projects, and whilst you can be mostly home-based there will be occasional travel to client sites and approximately once a month in one of their offices in either the West Midlands or London.

On offer is a basic salary between £50k – £70k + 25 days holiday + share scheme + life cover + 5% pension + lots more.
