ClimateTech Software Engineering Manager – Earth Observation

ClimateTech Software Engineering Manager – Earth Observation
Location: Fully remote within Europe, +/- 2 hours of CET.
Salary: €75K – €100K + equity & benefits.

Forest management is tough. Cut too much and we release carbon, too little and the risk of wildfire or damage to infrastructure can be devastating.

Vegetation monitoring may not sound very exciting but building earth observation software, utilising satellite imagery and Machine Learning with remote sensing and geospatial presents interesting challenges.

These systems are used to efficiently manage resources and team activities, saving time and money.

Most importantly though, this saves homes, businesses and services from blackouts caused by seasonal and extreme weather events. It’s a game changer in energy and climate resilience.

The company have grown rapidly since the end of 2021. There are ~70 people now, with around 45 in development and data science across 5 teams with one core product, each being quite specialised.

You’ll lead a team of 6-8 cross-disciplined people, building out new features and implementing deeply interesting product developments. Your key focus will be optimising the team, removing bottlenecks, and supporting them individually, managing resources and planning workloads in line with changing priorities.

Data processing and pipelines are critical to the work, and it’s essential you’ve worked with machine learning products in the past. Geospatial and remote sensing data experience and any knowledge of satellite and high-resolution imagery would also be very helpful.

Their tech stack is Python, Django, Typescript, Node and React, with Google Cloud Platform for managing their services. They use a lot of PyTorch and TensorFlow and various other data libraries or frameworks so you might be getting the hint that data exp is key experience.

They’re hoping to find someone who’s been an EM in numerous companies, having seen some different approaches to leadership, process design and implementation, onboarding, and a deep curiosity for understanding people. Empathy is critical and this all feeds into building a team who are passionate about having a positive impact and compassionate towards their peers.

They also want someone familiar with startup environments, ideally who’s been through series A-C fundraises and the growth that comes with bringing on paying customers and investment simultaneously.

The team are friendly and passionate, and the company are supportive with good benefits including equity, so you’re bought into any future success.

Want to help address the climate crisis? What are you waiting for? 😁

Conservation Tech Lead

Conservation Tech Lead – Ruby on Rails & JavaScript

Location: Cambridge, hybrid – 2 days per month on-site

Salary: Up to £70K + 12% pension

Biodiversity is finally raising the agenda globally, following various agreements made at BioCOP15 in Canada in late 2022.

Monitoring and reporting financial disclosures and their impacts on nature will be compulsory for many large companies from early 2024, particularly those extracting resources, developing land or providing finance.

Working for a conservation partnership of 4 organisations this role will be working on a geospatial mapping tool which tracks biodiversity over land and oceans. The usership has doubled in the last 18 months with no signs of slowing. The platform is also used by conservation partners and governments to allow for more robust decision-making and policy creation.

You’ll work predominantly with Ruby on Rails and JavaScript to build new features, taking some ownership of design and architecture as you grow into the position and learn how your team work best. They use PostgreSQL and have lots of APIs which require maintenance.

Interestingly, you’ll have the best of several worlds in this role, being employed by a charity with a large broader tech team and a strong support network, events and workshops for upskilling and a wonderful culture, while being embedded in a specific product team.

You’ll manage around 4 people, though this will likely grow to ~7 in the next year. You’ll take ultimate responsibility for the platform, including touching on things like security, testing, documentation and coaching your team, though there are colleagues across the partnership who can support in areas outside of your skillset, e.g., security.

As the tool is geospatial / mapping focused, any experience using or building GIS tools will be hugely beneficial. Knowledge of conservation, rewilding, ecology, biodiversity, or any field within environmental science will also stand out, as will a demonstrable passion for tackling the climate crisis.

The team needs a leader with experience, someone who can manage resources, assess future priorities and requirements, identify gaps within the team skills matrix and maintain calm when deadlines are looming. This platform is the authoritative tool in the sector globally, and the aim is to maintain that prestige and impact.

So, if you’re serious about saving our planet and turning the tide against the fight to fix our climate crisis, this is a role you should apply for.

What are you waiting for?

Director of Cloud Security

Director of Cloud & Security
Salary: €100K+, 13% vacation stipend, equity and more.
Location: Fully remote – Central European time +/- 3

Forest management can be challenging. Cut too much and you’re causing unnecessary damage or increasing the risk of drought, too little and the risk of wildfire or damage to infrastructure can be devastating and costly.

Vegetation management may not sound all that exciting but building earth observation software to integrate satellite imagery with geospatial analysis and Machine Learning with data coming in from teams, remote sensors and other hardware on the ground presents interesting challenges!

These systems are used to efficiently manage resources and team activities, saving nature, time and money. Also avoiding homes, businesses and services experiencing blackouts caused by seasonal and extreme weather events. It’s a game changer in energy and climate resilience.

The company have grown rapidly since the end of 2021. There are ~65 people now, with around 40 of those in tech, including data science, product and delivery.

So far, their DevOps function is currently managed by one DevOps Engineer. You’ll lead that individual and take ownership of resources, strategy and policy longer term as they scale their services and teams which are highly specialised.

The role will start around 50% hands-on, shifting to ~20% over the next 18 months and the team will grow from one to at least five by the end of 2024.

You may also have some customer engagement if a large / niche customer comes on board with specific security requirements, again you’d handle the strategic approach to those scenarios, including resource management and additional personnel needs.

Appreciating most people don’t have specialisms in both security & DevOps, this role could fit someone from either a security or DevOps background, so long as you have touched on the other discipline to a reasonably high degree, perhaps managing or collaborating closely with DevOps or Security teams and have the knowledge to assess scenarios outside of your strengths and bring in the right consultant or hire, ask the right questions and deliver on business goals

They use Python and Google Cloud Platform but understand AWS or Azure are largely transferrable. Experience with security principles, e.g. NIST, ISO 27001 or SOC2 is essential as you’ll manage external auditors and security partnerships, including with customers’ security teams – at least early days.

Most importantly, they need someone to embed and influence their DevOps & Security culture, someone who’s not afraid to coach individuals and teams and adapt to changing business priorities as they arise, so some kind of startup experience is also going to be key.

Following that, a real passion for climate solutions is something they’ll want to see. They care about their teams. They have budgets to contribute to your training and development and operate truly flexibly – so long as you’re available and overlap with the team (+/- 3 hours CET is best).

If this sounds like a bit of you please reach out. They’re remote first and will consider people anywhere in Europe. They can also provide visa sponsorship via a Netherlands government salary sacrifice scheme if you’d prefer to move to the Netherlands.

GreenTech Technical Delivery Lead

GreenTech Tech Delivery Lead

Location: Fully remote within Europe, +/- 1 hour of CET.
Salary: €70K – €85K + 13% vacation supplement + equity & benefits.

Vegetation management. Harder than it sounds. Cut too much; cause unnecessary damage, too little and the risk of wildfire or damage to infrastructure can be devastating and costly.

Vegetation management may not sound that exciting but building earth observation software to integrate satellite imagery with geospatial analysis and Machine Learning with data coming in from teams, remote sensors and other hardware on the ground presents interesting challenges!

These systems are used to efficiently manage resources and team activities, saving time and money.

Most importantly though, this protects as much nature as possible while saving homes, businesses, and services from blackouts caused by seasonal and extreme weather events. Literally improving energy and climate resilience.

The company have grown rapidly since the end of 2021. There are ~60 people now, with around 30 of those in development and geospatial / data science.

The data science team are growing to increase the capacity of their systems for their existing clients, and to meet demand as new clients with ever-more-interesting requirements come online. They need someone to support these efforts to utilise the tools they’ve built to bring value from satellite imagery and other geospatial datasets, analysing those using machine learning, and delivering the end results to customers.

You’ll work with commercial teams and customers to understand their needs, what existing solutions can be applied, what’s already planned and in development and what future capabilities can be delivered. You’ll design bespoke solutions and wrangle the necessary people to deliver those.

Also, supporting software engineering and data science teams to improve and create products and tools, define risk, strategy and resource management alongside executing delivery plans in line with estimations.

This role is somewhat hybrid, touching on technical project management, with some hands-on work using Python and Jupyter notebooks to implement fixes, optimise and configure tools and generally tie off loose ends where needed, so you’ll be ~30% hands-on.

Commercial remote sensing experience and satellite imagery exp are a huge benefit, but having experience with Python and Jupyter Notebooks is a must, and they’re keen to speak with people who’ve worked at start-ups or small companies where close customer relationships and interaction are/were the norm.

Predominantly they use Python, but they also work pretty heavily with GIS technologies and tools. They also use PyTorth and Tensorflow, so experience with similar frameworks or libraries will be transferrable, especially if you have that remote sensing, geospatial or satellite data exp.

There will be projects that others lead, and you review or support, but you will take the lead on lots of different projects, some small, some larger. The team are friendly and passionate, and the company are supportive with good benefits including equity, so you’ve bought into any future success.

What are you waiting for – if this sounds interesting and you have done 60-70%, or more, of what’s mentioned above in some form, do hit apply.

Senior Business Development Manager

Role:  Senior BDM – Software Outsourcing

Location:  Remote / London

Salary:  £100k – £120k + significant bonuses and commission to take your earnings well over £150k

The consultancy market is booming right now…and you’re probably fairly ‘comfortable’ right where you are.

As a Senior Sales / Business Development Manager you’ve been steadily growing your numbers, and winning new customers and the outlook for your year is positive.

However, you know there’s a limit to what you can realistically achieve if you stay where you are.

Maybe you are limited by a narrowly defined vertical.  Maybe the company is struggling to deliver the consultancy projects your customers want to give you.  Or maybe, you just fancy the chance to join a highly successful software outsourcing company as their first BDM as they look to grow their UK/European client base.

They’re already delivering for some UK household names as their team’s technical expertise and availability allow them to offer customers a genuine alternative option to the usually outsourced markets.

However, there’s a big market to go at, and they are committed to making the UK one of the key international markets so they are going all in with this role.

You’ll be paid a bonus guarantee for the first 6 months as you build your pipeline, with additional bonuses for any deals done during this time.  The commission is uncapped, and once you start signing up agreements (expected from month 7 onwards) your earning potential will be unlimited, with the additional opportunity to work from their offices in Dubai for a few months a year to benefit from tax-free income.

This isn’t your usual one-on-one out-hire.  It’s the first of its kind in the UK, and you’ll be supported by a positive and supporting Regional Sales Director.

They are looking for someone with previous tech outsourcing sales experience, and someone with a proven track record of delivering new business and signing deals between £200k – £1m or more.

The role will be home-based, though you can work out of their office in central London if you prefer.

The position may suit someone who always loved the idea of working in the Middle East, but struggled to commit to the idea as you will have the option here and they will support you if you do decide to spend some of the working year in Dubai.

On offer is a base salary of between £100k – £120k + significant bonuses and commission to take your earnings well over £150k.  private medical for you and your family is also included.

Please apply for a guaranteed personal response or call me (Sam @ Rebel Recruiters) to find out if it could be suitable for you!

You’ll be reacting to performance signals and proposing new approaches to take the digital branch of the business to the next level. This is one of those rare roles where there is high exposure to the CEO/C-suite due to the team structure and the fact you will be presenting the monthly margin forecasts, and trade plans and leading the delivery on them.

The right candidate for this role has a number of years experience in the B2C E-commerce domain looking after digital trading. Perhaps you are currently an Ecommerce manager for a large brand? Or perhaps you are managing a team within buying at the moment? They are HEAVILY focused on commercial performance right now, so the skillset that the successful candidate can bring to the table will be crucial. Although this is a fantastic opportunity, I don’t like to sugarcoat things and therefore it’s important to understand that due to the current digital transformation they are going through, you will need to be highly resilient, able to foresee future trading opportunities and able to set the pace working cross-functionally with the marketing and commercial teams.
