Combining an effective interview with an effective sales pitch for Developers!
Combining an effective interview with an effective sales pitch for Developers can be a powerful way to attract top talent while showcasing your company’s values and opportunities.
As you probably already know by now, Developers are, on the whole, pretty pragmatic people by nature.
They like to know the facts and don’t typically care for waffle or bluster.
So, to answer this question as effectively and succinctly as possible; the best way to combine an effective interview with a sales pitch for Devs is to be truthful and factual about EVERYTHING – honestly, you’d be surprised at how effective this is in building trust with developers who are tired of being ‘sold’ to!
Be clear about the culture, the challenges, the career path, and progression opportunities.
Don’t try to over-egg the pudding or hide potential negatives about what you’re offering; it will come across quite clearly and will be off-putting. If something sounds too good to be true, it often is. All individuals and companies have room for improvement, and being upfront about these things is really the best way. It might even be something that the candidate could improve if they were in the role, so could actually turn out to be a benefit for them – a way to add value.
I love this topic because it really highlights the fact that an interview is a two-way street. The candidate is obviously trying to highlight their best qualities to you, their prospective employer, but you are inevitably trying to do the same. I am a true believer in both parties being honest and upfront about their strengths and weaknesses and allowing the per side to make an informed decision about how to proceed. This is, in my opinion, the best way to incorporate a sales pitch into a Dev interview!
